Rut Labrada Earns Clare Philips Martin Scholarship at 深夜福利在线免费看

VALDOSTA — Rut Labrada of Moultrie, Georgia, is the recipient of 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2025-2026 Clare Philips Martin Scholarship.

Named for the wife of the late Dr. Sidney Walter Martin, who served as 深夜福利在线免费看’s fifth president from 1966 to 1978, the Clare Philips Martin Scholarship is presented to a student with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 who is active in both on- and off-campus activities and organizations and has earned a total of 60 academic credit hours or more.

“I am deeply grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of the Clare Philips Martin Scholarship,” she said. “During my time at 深夜福利在线免费看, I have learned that the options for what I can do in the future are limitless, and I plan to use this scholarship to explore and learn about my different scholarly interests and create a future where I can help my community and make the world a better place in my own way. This scholarship has come to me as a blessing during a time where I was uncertain if I would be able to continue school due to financial reasons, but now I know that I will be able to move forward and make my loved ones proud.”

Labrada is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Minor in Journalism, and a Minor in Entrepreneurship. She anticipates graduating from 深夜福利在线免费看 in May 2027.

As a student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Labrada has participated in the Building Community Through the Humanities initiative, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through 深夜福利在线免费看’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. This allowed her to complete two semester-long paid internship opportunities at the Pope Museum in Cairo, Georgia, and share her experiences at 深夜福利在线免费看’s annual Experiential Learning Exposition and Undergraduate Research Symposium.

She served as student editor for the 16^th volume of Omnino, 深夜福利在线免费看’s undergraduate research journal scheduled for release later this year. She writes for The Spectator, the independent student newspaper of 深夜福利在线免费看, and has accepted the arts and entertainment editor role effective fall semester. She earned a study abroad scholarship to spend the summer in South Korea while helping international students through the English Language Institute’s Conversation Partners program.

Labrada’s commitment to academic, leadership, and service excellence has helped her earn multiple Dean’s List honors and the Harold S. Gulliver Sr. Memorial Scholarship. She is a Georgia HOPE Scholar.  

After graduation, Labrada plans to continue her education and pursue a master’s degree in journalism or library science.

“I have multiple interests that I am considering at the moment, but I would like to choose a career path where I am able to share my love for history, literature, news, and learning with my community and build strong bonds between community members,” she shared. “One goal that I have is to open a library that is open outside of traditional business hours so that community members who work a 9-5 schedule have access to the crucial resources and information that libraries provide.”
