As a student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Labrada has participated in the Building Community Through the Humanities initiative, funded by the Andrew W. This allowed her to complete two semester-long paid internship opportunities at the Pope Museum in Cairo, Georgia, and share her experiences at 深夜福利在线免费看’s annual Experiential Learning Exposition and Undergraduate Research Symposium.

She writes for The Spectator, the independent student newspaper of 深夜福利在线免费看, and has accepted the arts and entertainment editor role effective fall semester. She earned a study abroad scholarship to spend the summer in South Korea while helping international students through the English Language Institute’s Conversation Partners program.

Labrada’s commitment to academic, leadership, and service excellence has helped her earn multiple Dean’s List honors and the Harold S. Gulliver Sr. Memorial Scholarship. She is a Georgia HOPE Scholar.  

After graduation, Labrada plans to continue her education and pursue a master’s degree in journalism or library science.

“I have multiple interests that I am considering at the moment, but I would like to choose a career path where I am able to share my love for history, literature, news, and learning with my community and build strong bonds between community members,” she shared. “One goal that I have is to open a library that is open outside of traditional business hours so that community members who work a 9-5 schedule have access to the crucial resources and information that libraries provide.”

The University System of Georgia Legislative Academic Recognition Day Award is presented to a student who has a perfect 4.0 grade point average, represents the USG’s and 深夜福利在线免费看’s best qualities, strives for excellence, and has the ability to share knowledge in various areas of expertise.

Archer graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Criminal Justice in December 2025. She continued her education at 深夜福利在线免费看 and anticipates earning a Master of Public Administration in May 2027.

As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Archer served as a Peer Alliance Learning facilitator with 深夜福利在线免费看’s Academic Support Center, where she helped students in Dr. Bernard Tamas’s Scope and Methods of Political Science course improve their understanding of research methods and data analysis. She completed an internship at the law firm of Young, Thagard, Hoffman LLP, where she now works as a full-time legal assistant.  

Archer was inducted into the Alpha Beta Mu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha: The National Political Science Honor Society in Spring 2025 and served as a senator in the 深夜福利在线免费看 Student Government Association from Fall 2023 to Spring 2025.

She presented “The Rise of Political Polarization and Democratic Backsliding” at the 56^th annual Georgia Political Science Association (GPSA) Conference in November 2024, winning the Roger N. Pajari Award for best undergraduate paper. Her research was published in “Questions in Politics,” a GPSA journal. She also presented this work at 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2025 Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The following year, at the 57^th annual GPSA Conference, she presented “Dog Whistles and Dixie: Tracing the Nationalization of the Southern Strategy.” She won another Roger N. Pajari Award for best undergraduate paper, becoming the first student in GPSA history to ever win back-to-back recognitions. She also presented this work at the Symposium of Southern Politics in March 2026.

Archer co-authored “Electoral Bias and Democratic Backsliding” with Tamas and presented that research at the fourth annual Virtual Electoral Integrity Conference in July 2024. The student-teacher research duo also co-authored a second paper — “Does Gerrymandering Increase Partisan Polarization?” — and shared those findings at the American Political Science Association Virtual Conference in April 2025.

During Spring Semester 2025, Archer was honored to be the first undergraduate student in the United States selected to serve as a research fellow for the Scholars Strategy Network. Working with the organization’s Georgia chapter, she helped write a gerrymandering report about Georgia with co-authors Dr. David Cottrell of the University of Georga, Dr. Peter Miller of the Brennan Center for Justice, Dr. Benjamin Schneer of Harvard University’s John F. Ultimately, I want my work to advance fairness, accountability, and meaningful reform while building a career that integrates legal knowledge, public service, and research to create lasting, positive change.”

Hernandez graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Applied Economics, a Minor in Applied Mathematics, and a Certificate in Data Science. She will now begin her career with the Marriott International Voyage Program, while also preparing for her actuarial exams and working towards becoming a credentialed actuary. 

As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Hernandez was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, Beta Gamma Sigma: The International Business Honor Society, and The National Society of Leadership and Success, where she served as secretary. “My plans after graduation are to move back home to Cartersville while completing my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Health and Physical Education online through 深夜福利在线免费看,” she shared. “While doing this, I plan to work as an assistant coach at Cass High School and coach an Athletics Gold 9U softball team. My long-term career goal is to become a physical education teacher and a softball coach, where I can help develop athletes both on and off the field.”

Ruff anticipates graduating from 深夜福利在线免费看 in May 2028 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Minor in Aerospace Studies. She hopes to commission into the United State Air Force and work as a forensic investigator.

As a cadet in 深夜福利在线免费看’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 172, Ruff has taken on key leadership responsibilities, including serving as recruiting officer. She has also been actively engaged in undergraduate research with the Department of Biology, where she recently studied gnathostomes and snail egg development. These experiential learning opportunities have already helped her develop strong laboratory and analytical skills that will serve her well as she pursues a career with the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations.

Ruff’s commitment to academic, leadership, research, and service excellence has resulted in her being named Cadet of the Quarter and earning several recognitions, including the Stuart Parker Academic Scholarship, the Melvene Hardee Scholarship, and the Outstanding College of Science and Mathematics Student Award. A rising junior, Allan has already demonstrated analytical depth and intellectual curiosity, conducting research that reflects his strong commitment to addressing some of the most pressing political issues today. He has had two papers selected for conferences.

He presented “Reassessing the Relationship: Consequences of the Trump Administration’s Foreign Policy on EU and Czech Partnerships” at the 2025 Georgia Political Science Association Conference, European Union Studies Panel.  

His work, “AI Deepfakes and American Policy Making: Addressing Disinformation in the Modern Digital Age,” was presented at the 2025 Georgia Political Science Association Conference, Fulbright Partnership Panel, and at a University of West Bohemia Study Abroad Conference.

Allan founded the 深夜福利在线免费看 chapter of Young Americans for Freedom, a project of Young America’s Foundation, during his first year on campus and served as its charter chairman. Now, as a regular member, he enjoys mentoring other students who are in leadership positions.

He joined the Honors Student Association, securing a leadership role as freshman representative, and he was selected to serve as a freshman and sophomore justice on the Student Conduct Advisory Council. He remains an active member of both organizations.

He enjoys volunteering with Lowndes Associated Ministries to People Inc. (LAMP) and advocating for individuals and families experiencing homelessness across South Georgia. He also supports the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raises funds to fight against the disease.

Allen’s commitment to academic, leadership, research, and service excellence has resulted in him earning multiple Dean’s List honors, the four-year Jennett Scholarship, the Pizer Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship, the John and Gertrude Odum Scholarship, the Honors College Outstanding Student Award, and an internship with Hamilton Trust Estate & Elder Law. Allan plans to graduate from 深夜福利在线免费看 in December 2027 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Certificate in European Union Studies, and Honors College Certification. He has pursued a focused course of study in international relations and foreign policy.

“My plans after graduation from 深夜福利在线免费看 are to attend law school and hopefully become a practicing attorney in international law,” he said. “I would love to go to George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., but there are always opportunities for others as well. My career goals include playing a vital role in foreign policy aspects, which I love dearly, and also working in coordination with organizations such as the United Nations when it comes to human rights, general regulations, and laws that affect everyone, whether inside the United States or not.”

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences Outstanding Senior Sciences Award is presented to a student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

Wentworth graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and a Minor in Nutritional Science. She plans to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach at a private facility in Valdosta.

I will miss the community I’ve made these past four years, but I know these relationships will last a lifetime.”

As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Wentworth completed the requirements to become an American College of Sports Medicine-certified exercise physiologist and served as a strength and conditioning intern with Blazer Athletics. She volunteered with Church House Valdosta and was an active member of Awakening Collegiate Fellowship, a Valdosta college ministry where she served as a connect and media intern and as president.

The James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services Highest Academic Achievement Award is presented to a student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

Brant graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Communication Disorders. She plans to continue her education at 深夜福利在线免费看 and pursue a Master of Education in Communication Disorders and a career as a speech-language pathologist. 

As an undergraduate student, Brant joined 深夜福利在线免费看’s chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, where she served on the social committee and was later elected president, and she supported the Lady Blazer basketball team as a student manager. She also volunteered with Special Olympics, Night to Shine, and other organizations, all while working two part-time jobs.  

Under the guidance of Dr. Matthew Carter, professor in 深夜福利在线免费看’s Department of Communication Science and Disorders, Brant completed a mini-longitudinal study that may significantly enhance a college student’s ability to learn. She found that getting 15 minutes of early morning sunlight, avoiding caffeine, and drinking about one liter of water within 90 minutes of waking was associated with improved working memory.

Working memory, Carter confirmed, is a strong predictor of academic success, as it is essential for learning, problem-solving, and completing many everyday tasks. Brant plans to submit her findings to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for publication and possibly expand this research to other cognitive areas, such as attention.

Green, a veteran administrator with a decade of leadership experience within USG, currently serves as president of Gordon State College. He previously served as president of Georgia Highlands College (GHC) from 2014 to 2021, then took the helm at Point Park University in Pittsburgh before returning to Georgia. In total, Green brings nearly 36 years of higher education leadership experience to his new role at 深夜福利在线免费看.

About Dr. Donald J. Green

The Board of Regents named Green as Gordon State’s fifth president on Nov. 15, 2023. Green replaced Dr. Kirk Nooks in May 2023, serving first as interim president for several months before being named to the permanent role.

Since arriving at Gordon State, Green has spearheaded the “Fast Forward” Strategic Plan, a three-year roadmap to accelerate student degree completion and align academic offerings with the evolving labor market. Under his leadership, the college surpassed many of its strategic objectives a full year ahead of schedule, placing the institution on a strong financial footing while driving philanthropic giving through the Gordon State Foundation to historic highs.

Green’s focus on the campus experience produced significant student milestones, including a 7.5% increase in recruitment this past spring and a record Fall-to-Fall retention rate of 64.5% in 2025 – a 13% increase over the previous year. To keep students on track, he introduced proactive “Success Plans” and intensive advising models that prioritize timely graduation, culminating in a record-breaking Fall 2025 commencement that saw a 19% surge in degrees awarded. Last week, Gordon State celebrated its largest commencement in a decade.

Beyond academic programming, Green focused heavily on campus revitalization, overseeing the expansion of undergraduate research opportunities and comprehensive renovations to student residence halls. By positioning the college as a “talent pipeline” for central Georgia, Green focused on the power of a degree to transform the financial trajectory of local families and the regional workforce.

In September 2014, the board named Green as GHC’s fourth president, where he served until taking the helm at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2021.

Before GHC, Green served in several leadership roles at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., and held administrative and teaching posts at Grand Rapids Community College and Davenport University, both in Grand Rapids, Mich. Green also previously ran a consulting firm that specialized in training and education.

Green holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Michigan State University, a master’s in labor and human resource management from Ohio State University, and a Doctor of Educational Leadership degree from Western Michigan University.

The Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration Outstanding Student Award is presented to a student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

Jiang graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Honors College Certification, and Bloomberg Certification.  

As a student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Jiang served as chief marketing officer and reporter for Beta Alpha Psi: The International Honor Organization for Financial Information Students and Professionals, president and secretary of Rotaract Club, chief marketing officer and vice president of the Valdosta State Investment Group, vice president of the Data Analytics Student Association, and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma: The International Business Honor Society.  

Jiang helped host donation drives for Boys and Girls Club of South Georgia and The Haven, a nonprofit organization that provides 24-hour temporary shelter and services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, strangulation, and human trafficking. She also participated in campus cleanup and plastic recycling events.

She presented Best Practice at the 2025 and 2026 Beta Alpha Psi conference, focusing primarily on recruitment and the accounting profession pipeline. She also participated in “Project Run With It,” a unique Beta Alpha Psi competition designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage in a real-world consulting project.

Jiang’s commitment to academic, leadership, and service excellence resulted in her earning Dean’s List honors every semester, fourth place recognition at the 2025 J. As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Phillips served as secretary of the Rotaract Club. She volunteered in the on-campus Herbarium, at the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services’ Once Upon a STEM Day, and with two College of Science and Mathematics’ Science Saturday events.

“I had a great deal of fun helping the children learn about science,” she said. “As a child, I got to attend similar events, and it shaped a lot of my love for the sciences.”

As a leader in the University Ambassadors program, she introduced prospective students and their families to Blazer Nation and celebrated the achievements of 深夜福利在线免费看 graduates as they walked across the stage at Commencement.  

Phillips actively engaged in research that took her academic experience beyond the classroom and encouraged her to explore real-world questions in her fields of study. These efforts allowed her to develop a deeper understanding of scientific discovery, spread her enthusiasm for science, and inspire others to appreciate its impact on everyday life.

She performed research on plant gene expression with Dr. Felix Jimenez Rondan, assistant professor in the Department of Biology.

Her work with Dr. Jonghoon Kang, biophysics professor, resulted in the publication of “Nonlinear Modeling Reveals a Refined Relationship Between Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes and Postsurgical Inflammatory and Organ Damage Responses” in the December 2025 edition of the Scandinavian Journal of Immunology.

She presented “Mistaken Identity: How to Eliminate the Inadequacies of Current Forensic DNA Analysis” at 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2025 Undergraduate Research Symposium.

She joined the research team of Dr. Cristina Calestani, genetics and genomics professor, to study how to use eDNA to monitor the spread of an invasive mussel species. That work resulted in her delivering an oral presentation — “Development of eDNA Technology Applied to the Monitoring of the Invasive Marine Mussel Mytella Charruana” — at the 2026 Undergraduate Research Symposium. She has been selected to present this research at the International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in August.

Her commitment to academic, leadership, research, and service excellence resulted in her earning multiple Dean’s List recognitions as well as the 2025-2026 Biology Senior Award. She is a Georgia HOPE Scholar.

Phillips will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Minor in Chemistry, and an Honors College Certificate this summer.

“My career goal after graduation is to work for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as a forensic DNA analyst,” she said. “I have always wanted to help people, and I have always loved science, so it will be a joy to meld the two together! I especially appreciate the fact that I will be helping to uncover truth. The knowledge that this truth can both help prevent someone from harming others and be brought to justice while also being able to exonerate the innocent is something that I do not take lightly. I feel honored to be able to help people in this way in the future through my career field.”

Through the program, community leaders are paired with units across the base to build relationships and gain a deeper understanding of Air Force operations. Brownlee and Pearce will serve as ambassadors between Moody Air Force Base and the surrounding community while engaging directly with base leadership and personnel.

Brownlee, president of the 深夜福利在线免费看 Foundation Board of Trustees and southwest regional director for Georgia Power, is assigned to the 23d Mission Support Group. The group provides essential services that enable base operations, including logistics, infrastructure, and personnel support.

Pearce, chief development officer for University Advancement, is assigned to the 336th Recruiting Squadron, which is responsible for recruiting and inspiring the next generation of airmen to serve in the United States Air Force.

“It is an honor to serve in this role as we work alongside leadership at Moody Air Force Base to strengthen community relationships and increase awareness of Air Force operations,” Pearce said.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences Outstanding Student Award is presented to a student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

“As a hard-working student that does not know how to slow down and recognize myself and my own accomplishments, this award really put into perspective how much I have been able to accomplish during my undergraduate degree at 深夜福利在线免费看,” she said.

Wilson graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology and a Minor in Spanish. She now plans to continue her education and pursue an accelerated Master of Science in Sociology through 深夜福利在线免费看’s Applied Sociology 4+1 program.

As an undergraduate student, Wilson participated in the university’s Building Community Through the Humanities initiative, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through 深夜福利在线免费看’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. This allowed her to complete a semester-long paid internship at Fellowship Brookside Assisted Living Community and share her experience at 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2026 Undergraduate Research Symposium.

She demonstrated a strong passion for undergraduate research and a commitment to exploring complex questions through critical thinking and collaboration. During her four years at 深夜福利在线免费看, it was hard to miss the joy she had for engaging in hands-on research experiences that deepened her academic knowledge, strengthened her problem-solving skills, and contributed to meaningful discoveries in her field of study.

Wilson presented “Growing Up Working: Impression Management and Motivation in High Achieving Generation Z Students” at the 2025 Georgia Sociological Association Conference; the 2026 National Conference on Undergraduate Research; 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2026 Graduate Student Research and Scholarship Symposium, where she earned a first-place poster award; and 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2026 Undergraduate Research Symposium, where she earned a second-place paper award. Her “Impression Management at Work: Hustle Culture’s Effect on Wellbeing and its Expression on Social Media” was one of six projects selected for 深夜福利在线免费看’s 2025 Blazer Summer Research Institute (BSRI). She received a $1,000 scholarship plus compensation for any expenditures related to this project. In addition to her oral presentation at the end of the BSRI season, she presented this research at the 2025 深夜福利在线免费看 Undergraduate Research Symposium, earning a first-place poster award.

Wilson’s commitment to academic, research, and service excellence also helped her earn the Department of Modern and Classical Languages Excellence in the Study of Spanish for a Minor Award; the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Kathleen Lowney Outstanding Paper Award and Outstanding Student for Sociology Award, as well as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Excellence in Experiential Learning Certificate. 

She hopes to pursue a career as a licensed clinical social worker and focus on supporting the needs of patients and their families in a hospital setting.

It was first used at the June 12, 1994, commencement ceremony presided over by President Hugh C. Bailey. It has subsequently served President Ronald M. Zaccari, President Patrick J. Schloss, Interim President Levy, President William J. McKinney, Interim President Staton, Interim President Brown, President Richard Carvajal, and now Interim President William R. Crowe.

The design of the 深夜福利在线免费看 mace is based on the dome of West Hall. It was sculpted by hand in wax and cast in bronze using the lost wax casting process. Black onyx and red carnelian stones, representing the 深夜福利在线免费看 colors, are set into the bronze. The shaft is carved in a dark mahogany. The mahogany base is engraved with the university’s logo.

“I'm honored to serve in this capacity. Because of my role as general education coordinator and because of the undergraduate classes I teach, I have more often attended the Undergraduate Commencement. However, this time I was excited to watch the student whose thesis I chaired step across the stage in the Graduate School Commencement. I also watched many former and future students receive their graduate degrees during this ceremony. Celebrating the graduates' hard work and the hard work of their classmates, their faculty, their family members, and the staff who help this institution function effectively thrills me. “Being the recipient of this year’s Annie Powe Hopper Award has been a very pivotal moment during my journey here at 深夜福利在线免费看,” she said. “This award culminates all the years of hard work I put in and serves as the perfect ending to my undergraduate career. However, this award wasn’t won alone. It was won through all the encouragement of my mentors, family, and friends who cheered me on during my rigorous courses and demanding research. I am proud that all my individual efforts could contribute to the greatness of my university.”

Known as the highest honor bestowed upon a 深夜福利在线免费看 student, the Annie Powe Hopper Award is presented annually to a senior who represents the university’s high academic standards and exemplifies its traditions of excellence. It was first presented on May 2, 1962, and is named in honor of the institution’s first dean of women, who arrived at what was then known as South Georgia State Normal College in 1920 as a teacher.

South Georgia State Normal College became a four-year institution in 1922, and the name was changed to Georgia State Womans College. In the role of dean of women, Hopper insisted on proper etiquette in all areas from behavior to dress. She believed that a college education afforded students the opportunity to engage in a higher level of knowledge and the pursuit of an advanced critical thinking process, and she guided her female students to make choices that were noble and worthwhile in their lives. She retired in 1943, seven years before the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia declared the institution a coeducational one and changed the name to Valdosta State College.

As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, Wilson volunteered at SGMC Health’s Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center and at The Canopy at Azalea Grove. She worked in Dr. Ansul Lokdarshi’s Department of Biology lab, where she had an opportunity to support and mentor fellow students interested in developing better skills and topics for future research projects.

Wilson demonstrated strong academic initiative and contributed meaningfully to academic discussions through her various research initiatives. She presented “Bedaquiline: From Antibiotic to Cancer Drug and Back” at the February 2025 Posters at the Georgia State Capitol event, as well as the April 2025 深夜福利在线免费看 Undergraduate Research Symposium.

As part of an upper-level chemistry class led by Dr. Tom Manning, Wilson partnered with three other students to analyze in vitro data from the National Cancer Institute’s 60-cell line panel and test several novel drugs developed at 深夜福利在线免费看. This work led to the publication of a 170-page Kindle-based book — “An AI Approach to Understanding Cancer: From Science to Treatment” — as well as an opportunity to share her findings at 深夜福利在线免费看’s 31^st annual Undergraduate Research Symposium.

During 深夜福利在线免费看’s 32^nd annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, Wilson presented “Functional Characterization of Arabidopsis Thaliana GCN2 Using In Vitro Kinase Assay.” This project earned her Best Poster honors in the biology category.

Wilson graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. She earned multiple Dean’s List honors and was a Georgia HOPE Scholar. She plans to continue her education and earn a Master of Science in Anesthesia, which will allow her to pursue a career as a certified anesthesiologist assistant.

The College of the Arts Outstanding Student Award is presented to a student with a record of academic excellence and distinguished service inside and outside the classroom.

McCord graduated May 9 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She plans to continue her education at 深夜福利在线免费看, pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching in Music Education and a career as an elementary school music teacher.

“My time at 深夜福利在线免费看 has been incredible,” she shared. “It’s a blessing to have such supportive peers and faculty. I couldn’t be more excited to continue my education here.”

As an undergraduate student at 深夜福利在线免费看, McCord’s passion for excellence, musical precision, and supporting her fellow marching band members contributed to her success as drum major for the Blazin’ Brigade, a role she held during her senior year. She served as secretary of the National Association for Music Education Collegiate, performed as principal flutist with the Wind Ensemble, and shared her artistry with the Opera program and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.

Her commitment to academic, artistic, leadership, and service excellence resulted in her earning a spot on the Dean’s List every semester and the Spring 2026 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of the Arts. She was a Zell Miller Scholar.
